How to Conquer Fears in Gymnastics

Conquering fears in gymnastics can be difficult, but it’s a necessary part of not only the sport of gymnastics but also in life. When you overcome your fears, there are so many things that you can do! Today, we’re going to share what some of our Snowflake fans pledge to do without fear, and how you can help yourself to overcome any fear you have! Then, we’ll show a few more messages from the Snowflake family about what gymnastics fear they have overcome!

How can I overcome my fears?

  1. Take a deep breath and tell yourself that you can do it - positivity and positive thoughts will make you happier and less nervous.
  2. Take it slow – no one dives straight into the deep end of the pool on their first try.
  3. Listen to motivational music – it can distract from fears and keep you happy and energetic!
  4. Shake out those nervous feelings!
  5. Have friends cheer you on – friendship, support, and encouragement can go a long way!

And, here are a few things our Snowflake family have accomplished by conquering their fears:

“After a year of block struggles, I finally got my BWO on beam back. I had to figure out that you work through a block, not get over it.”

-@life_with_albc_gymnast30

“About a year ago, I peeled off a giant and was terrified to death. It took about 5 months until I started working with my coach on getting it back. On January 1, I decided to go for it and I still remember my coach jumping and dancing in joy!!”

-@giagymnast_

“Going backwards on beam!”

-@gymkidsyd

“The balance beam!”

-@gymnast_jordyn4

“Every time I go for a new big skill I have some fear. After getting over that initial fear and working the skills (even if it means going back to the basics to get there), the excitement of the new skill overcomes the fear. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.”

-@fifi_rose_gymnast

“About a week ago, I did my back handspring on high beam and both of my feet missed, and I have a big bruise from it, but yesterday I got back up and did it and my coach was jumping up and cheering!”
