We hope every gymnast had a great summer break! Now that school’s back in session, it’s time to focus on doing your very best not only on the gym floor but in the classroom as well. It’s no secret that coordinating your gym time and school time can be a very hard thing to do. We’d all rather be in the gym, but every gymnast must work as hard in the classroom as they do during practice. So how do you make time for both? We’ve found some tips for every gymnast on how to make time for gym training during the school year. Here is how to perform the hardest balancing act: time management!

Make a To-Do List Every Day

Making a to-do list may sound silly, but it’s very helpful with time management! Writing down your daily activities can help you prioritize what things need to be done in what order and will give you an estimate of how long it will take you to complete all your activities. To-do lists will also make sure that you’re not forgetting anything important. Don’t limit your to-do list to just homework either! You can add other daily activities, such as hobbies or chores to the list. Keep track of your life!

Although you may prefer checking social media or chatting with friends, bringing homework to places where you may have downtime, such as a long car ride or in between gym classes, can help cut back time that you would have spent doing homework at home. Getting your work done during downtime means that you aren’t going to miss activities that you want to participate in or events that you want to go to due to your terrifying homework load. You may not feel like working at the time, but you’ll be much happier to come home with your work completed. Using your school time wisely when you can also aid in this. Try getting a few math problems done during lunch or finishing the assignment you just got before the bell rings.

Create a “Study or Work Only!” Time

Create a time in your day when you can turn off all electronics and get away from all distractions. Set a timer to keep track of how long you have worked and don’t let anything get in between you and the task ahead for that timeframe. You won’t believe how helpful this can be! Getting away from distractions such as music, TV, and social media, allows you to buckle down and get your work done in a faster time and at a higher quality. Make sure to not set aside too long of a time for working. Give yourself a break in between your work blocks. It will feel like no time at all, but you’ll have done a ton of work, which leaves more time for play!

Try Hard In School

Making sure you understand the lesson before you go home can save a lot of time outside of school. Sit in the front of the classroom so you can both see and hear the teacher better. Take detailed and organized notes, and ask questions if you don’t understand. Chances are that you will be able to complete your homework much faster if you already understand the material.

Being a great student is just as important as being a great gymnast, but there is no need to give up one for the other. Manage your time wisely, and you’ll be outstanding in anything you do!
