NCAA Women's Gymnastics Postseason-Conference Championships

With NCAA Women's Gymnastics approaching post-season, Snowflake Designs wanted to give you an educational series with an overview of how NCAA postseason works so you can follow along!

NCAA Gymnastics postseason technically begins right after Conference Championships. Postseason includes Regional Championships and the National Championship.

Below, we explain the Conference Championships, which happens right before Regional Championships.

You can find details on Regional Championships here!

NCAA Women's Gymnastics Conference Championships

There are 12 different NCAA Gymnastics Conferences. You can find a full list of College Gymnastics Programs here with division and conference information thanks to USA Gymnastics.

All gymnastics teams qualify to compete at their conference championship. Typically, seeding is based on NQS.

Seeding = placement of teams in different sessions (typically a morning and a night session).

NQS = National Qualifying Score, this is determined by taking a team's top 6 scores, 3 of which have to be from away meets, dropping the highest score, and averaging the remaining 5 scores.

Depending on each conference, there are different rules to determine what team is crowned champion. Some conferences have Regular Season Champions, where the team that won the most meets throughout the season against conference components is crowned. And then have Postseason Champions, where the highest-scoring team at the Conference Championship is crowned. Whereas some conferences crown only the team with the highest NQS.
