'Twas The Night Before The Gym Meet

‘Twas the Night Before the Gym Meet

Written by Kaitlyn Gilman

Inspired by the poem A Visit from St. Nicholas by Clement Clarke Moore

‘Twas the night before the gym meet, and throughout all the gyms

Gymnasts were practicing their skills, and stretching their limbs.

They wished each other luck as they headed outside,

And drove home for dinner, homework, and bedtime.

The gymnasts then nestled all snug in their beds

While visions of victory danced in their heads.

The next morning they rose, all ready and rested;

Prepared to perform their best; prepared to be tested.

Now floor, now bars, now vault, now beam!

Gymnasts hear the cheers from the crowd and their team!

As events come to a close, the gymnasts converge

To see which winners emerge.

Names are called out loud and people go wild

As awards are presented to each teen, preteen, and child.

Leaving any meet, there is one thing to recall.

With a medal or without, it doesn’t matter at all.

All that should matter is that gymnasts had fun

And they should be proud of the hard work they’ve done.
