Trinity's Gymnastics Journey

If you follow us on social media, you know our brand ambassadors. These gymnasts work hard both in and out of the gym and share their love for gymnastics and Snowflake leotards with the digital world. They are influential figures for gymnasts of all ages.

Trinity is one of our ambassadors. She is a Level 5 gymnast working hard to achieve her gymnastics dreams. She tells the story of her journey into gymnastics and how she went from a young recreational gymnast into the world of competitive gymnastics.

Gymnast in a purple gymnastic leotard.

I was born to be a gymnast! I am 9 years old but my gymnastics journey began almost 6 years ago in the back of my mom’s truck. There I was hanging from the ceiling in perfect form (well not exactly, but for 3 years old it wasn’t too bad). It was at that moment my mom knew it was either the gym or her furniture, so she signed me up for classes at the nearest My Gym center. I spent 2 years tumbling and flipping over every piece of equipment they had available that I eventually needed my own staff member to watch me because all the “skills” I was doing were way beyond their level of comfort. Needless to say, I eventually outgrew that place and my parents knew I needed something a little more challenging (and spacious).

Hooray for kindergarten! I was finally old enough to start my first gymnastics class at a recreational center near my house. It was here that I fell in love with all the different equipment and learned the basics of gymnastics which I quickly tested out of the recreational skills. They asked my mom about letting me join the team which would mean more time, more money, and more difficult skills. I didn’t have a clue what was going on but I knew I wanted the long-sleeved blinged-out leotards (we only got those on the team) and to be great just like Gabby Douglas, so my parents agreed to let me do it. I had so much fun here. I was on my first team, was now called a “gymnast”, was able to compete and win medals, traveled to different gyms, and made my first real friends that I still talk to all the time. I completed pre-team, Level 3, and Level 4 during this time but my parents and other coaches saw my potential and wanted more for me than this gym could offer. My parents decided to take me off team in hopes of finding another place I could call home.

We were on the hunt for a gym where I could possibly compete at a national level if my ability continued to progress, but the only one within driving distance was full for the next season. I was devastated. I loved gymnastics and wanted nothing more than to go back to where I just left. My parents convinced me everything would work out and to help make me feel better they signed me up for other activities that I never had the chance to experience because gymnastics took up most of my time. I ran track, became a cheerleader, and started dancing for the Washington Wizards! I did great at all these things. I made it to the Jr Olympics in track, performed in front of thousands of people at the basketball games, and made new friends on my cheer team. But after a year of “exploring other options,” I told my parents how much I missed gymnastics and just wanted to go back. They knew where my heart was and began the search again.

Last year, my mom made a huge sacrifice just for me. She called up a gym that was much farther from our home than she was willing to drive to the previous year before. They asked me to come in and practice with one of their teams to see if I would be a good fit for the next season. On March 16, 2019, I walked into Capital Gymnastics, gave everything I had, and was asked to join the Level 4 team that same day! I was so excited and relieved. I was able to compete in the last meet of the season and qualified for State even though it had been a whole year since I last did gymnastics! My coaches were so proud of me and I was even more proud of myself because I knew that’s where I belonged and was finally able to prove it again.

Fast forward 1 year later… Here I am, a top 10 gymnast in the country with my blinged-out competition leotard, my awesome gym friends and coaches, a Snowflake Designs Ambassador, and a new gym to call my home.
